Synology DS923+

What it is

A four bay Synology NAS built on an AMD Ryzen R1600 with ECC memory support, which puts it above the entry tier for anyone who cares about data integrity. DSM is the most polished NAS operating system available, and the 10GbE expansion slot means it is not stuck at gigabit forever.

What to check before you buy

• Verify it includes drives or not. Many listings are the enclosure alone.
• Synology's drive compatibility policy has tightened on newer DSM versions. Check whether your intended drives are on the supported list.
• The 10GbE card is a separate purchase around $150.
• Confirm the unit is not locked to a previous owner's Synology account.

What a fair price looks like

Across 3 listings tracked in the last three days, the median total cost in USD including shipping is $671, and the lowest is $520. RackSniper flags a listing once it falls at or below 70 percent of the trailing 30 day median, which for this product means roughly $470 or less. Condition and configuration vary widely on used enterprise hardware, so treat the median as a reference point rather than a target.
